Holiday Open Studio at Digital Art Academy

|

The holidays are quickly approaching, and so is holiday fun. Registration is now open at the Digital Art Academy for the annual Holiday Open Studio event. Come join Karen Bonaker, Skip Allen, and me for four weeks of fun with Painter.

In Week one, Karen will be demonstrating how to paint a beautiful Holiday flower arrangement.

In Week two, Skip will demonstrate how to paint a snowy landscape using Watercolors, and he will include a lesson on using white space effectively.

In Week three, I will show you how to create a couple of holiday cards using Painter. You'll be using the shapes tool and the image portfolio, as well as some of Painter's basic tools. When you finish the lesson, you'll have the option of printing out your creations to send to family and friends.

In the final week of class, Karen will be back with a demonstration of how to paint a beautiful Holiday wreath using a set of custom brushes which will be available to all participants.

Holiday open studio classes begin on November 19, 2011 and end on December 16, 2011. Why not take a break from the hectic holiday planning, shopping and cooking, and join us for a fun-filled Painter adventure? You'll be glad you did.

Mac OS 10.7 users...Painter 12 Hotfix is Live!

|
Good news for Mac OS 10.7/Lion users!

Corel has released the long-awaited Hotfix for Painter 12 Mac OS 10.7 Lion. Read about it here, then download:

http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ca/en/Content/1157481830100?pid=1316114779185

Be sure to back up any custom items you have, brushes, color sets, paper textures, palettes, etc. before doing anything.

Note: Although this isn't stated on the page, I strongly suggest that after you install the Hotfix, you reboot your computer, then on the first launch of Painter 12, hold down your shift key, and choose "All Workspaces" from the dialog.

The Temporal Colors palette

|

One of the new features in Corel® Painter™ 12 is the Temporal Colors Palette. Here is some information about it which I have extracted from one of the lessons in my new Corel Painter: Get up to speed class at lvsonline.com

The Temporal Colors Palette

The Temporal Colors Palette is a small color picker which floats in the Document Window. You can use it to choose colors on the fly or to match colors to your image while painting. To call the Temporal Colors Palette, use the following shortcut key combination:

Ctrl+Alt+1 or Cmd+Option+1

As you can see, the Temporal Colors Palette contains many of the same settings as the Color panel. It's very handy when you're working on a particularly large image and need as much of your workspace real estate as possible. You can hide the other color panels, and just bring up the Temporal Colors Palette as needed. Another excellent use for it is when you want to find a color to add to your painting which will match, harmonize, or contrast nicely with the other colors. To do so, you would move the Temporal Colors Palette over the image until you find the color you wish to match and/or use.

If you find that the Temporal Colors Palette pops up in inconvenient places, it's very easy to move. Just hold your cursor over any blank area inside the Hue Ring, left-click, and you can move it any where you wish.

The Temporal Colors Palette can also be resized. Simply hover your cursor over the outer circular edge until it turns into a 4-headed arrow, then drag out from the ring to enlarge, or drag in toward the ring to make it smaller:

Note: When using the Temporal Colors Palette, as soon as you click anywhere outside of it, whether in the document, the workspace, or to call up another window, the Temporal Colors Palette disappears...and that's the reason for the name "Temporal", as in temporary or fleeting.

This handy tool is just one of the many new features you will find in Corel® Painter™ 12.

Welcome to my new blog!

Hello there!

A brand new blog, and a brand new Corel® Painter™. As you may already be aware, the newest version of Corel® Painter™, version 12, was released in May 2011. This latest version is almost like a brand new program. The entire interface has been changed to have a more modern and streamlined look, and there are new and easier ways to customize both the program and the workspaces. The new library management system is easy, fun, and more customizable than ever before. I really love it, and have found myself using this version almost exclusively for the past few months.

The purpose of this blog is to provide you with tips and tricks for using my favorite graphics program and to keep you all updated with the latest information about Corel Painter. Wish me luck.
